Plot Summary:
A ship disaster let in the 19-th century a man and woman in the uncivilised areas of Africa run aground. The lady is pregnant, and brings a son in her tree-house to the world. Shortly after, a family of the Menschenaffe-Stolperns about the house and in the following panic, both parents are killed. A female ape takes the tiny boy as a substitute with her own dead baby, and educates him as her son. Twenty years later Captaine Phillippe D’Arnot discovers the man who thinks that he is an ape. Proofs in the tree-house make him believe that he is the direct descendant of the count of Greystoke, and it takes thus on itself to return the man in the civilisation.
Eine Schiffskatastrophe hat im 19. Jahrhundert einen Mann und Frau in den unzivilisierten Gebieten Afrikas stranden lassen. Die Dame ist schwanger, und bringt einen Sohn in ihrem Baumhaus zur Welt. Bald danach, eine Familie des Menschenaffe-Stolperns über das Haus und in der folgenden Panik, werden beide Eltern getötet. Ein weiblicher Menschenaffe nimmt den winzigen Jungen als ein Ersatz für ihren eigenen toten Säugling, und erzieht ihn als ihr Sohn. Zwanzig Jahre später Captaine Phillippe entdeckt D’Arnot den Mann, der denkt, dass er ein Menschenaffe ist. Beweise im Baumhaus bringen ihn dazu zu glauben, dass er der direkte Nachkomme des Grafen von Greystoke ist, und es so auf sich selbst nimmt, um den Mann in die Zivilisation zurückzugeben.
