| Judah Ben-Hur lives as a rich Jewish prince and merchant in Jerusalem at the beginning of the 1st century. Together with the new governor his old friend Messala arrives as commanding officer of the Roman legions. At first they are happy to meet after a long time but their different politic views separate them. During the welcome parade a brick falls down from Judah's house and barely misses the governor. Although Messala knows that they are not guilty he sends Judah to the galleys and throws his mother and sister into prison. But Judah swears to come back and take revenge. Search keywords

| The film deals with the situation of British prisoners of war during the second world war whom is ordered to build a bridge to adapt the railway of Burma Siam. Their instinct has to do the bridge, but, under guidance of the colonel Nicholson (Alec Guinness) sabotage, they are persuaded that the bridge should be built as a symbol of the British morality, the mind and the dignity in disadvantageous relations. First the caught Nicholson admire if he courageously does not suffer torture, however, compromise his principles in favour of the Japanese commander Saito (Sessue Hayakawa). He is an honourable, but haughty man who is slowly revealed to be more compulsive a deceived one. He persuades that the bridge is a monument to the British character, but really a monument is to itself, and his persisting on his building a fine form of the collaboration with the enemy becomes. The allies have sent unknown him a mission in the jungle, led by the manager (Jack Hawkins) and an American to destroy Mowing (William Holden), the bridge.
