| The luck of the little place develops in the course of a very eventful Easter week-end in the small city of Holly Springs, Mississippi. The city inhabitants are peaceful, friendly people - with the exception of Camille Dixon (Glenn Close) - a vigorous theatrical manager with an incredibly shy younger sister, Cora (Julianne Moore) whose being separated daughter Emma (Liv Tyler) has returned just after the city. On the heels of her last play Camille is shaken to discover, that her aunt Jewel Mae *quot; Plätzchen*quot; Orcutt (Patricia Neal) suicide has committed. Frightened in the thought, as this will cloud the family name, she eats the resignation letter to let look it like a burglary. This setting brings the police to a prime suspect, Willi Richland (Charles S.. Dutton) who also is by chance the best friend of the little place. Although the rest of the city is persuaded that of Willi the crime, an outside investigator did not commit (Courtney B. Vance) is not sure in such a way. Because Easter Sunday and the opening night of the play come, the truth comes out, more secrets revealing than somebody could have maybe fancied.
