Mr.. Cedric Brown (Colin Firth) has just lost his wife and is left now with his seven children who behave badly so much that all the nannies will escape. Un grand fan des jeux de Shakespeare est l’Alto jeune, riche qui est sur le point d’être marié au Lord Wessex froid-hearted, mais rêve constamment de devenir une actrice. On n’a pas permis aux femmes d’agir sur le stade en ce temps-là (les rôles femelles ont été joués par les hommes, aussi), mais s’est habillé comme un garçon, l’Alto auditionne avec succès pour la partie de Charmeur. Bientôt elle et Guillaume sont attrapés dans un roman défendu qui fournit l’inspiration riche à son jeu.
