Father Gabriel climbs the mountains of Brazil to bring the native to Christianity. He is successful and causes a golden age among them. Mendoza, a slave trader, kills his brother in an attack of the fury, and only Fr. The management of Gabriel prevents his suicide. Gabriel makes Mendoza work on his mission with the natives, and Mendoza finds peace and asks to become a priest. The church, under the pressure, resigns the land to the Portuguese who will permit to slave traders in again. Mendoza breaks his vows and organises the natives to oppose, while Gabriel admonishes him to help them as a priest.
