John Marion Stryker is the extreme marine, a tough gun troop leader who is assigned in 1943 a troop by new recruits gesattelt with three ex-servicemen and an old enemy of Stryker of previous tasks in the Far East. A recruit in particlar is a spring of the friction with Stryker, Peter Conway whose Vater Stryker’s CO was in Guadalcanal, and who thought that his son was too soft and cowardly to be a marine. The troop grows more and more annoyingly in the more and more crude teaching government of Stryker and his lack of the affection for the different personal problems of the recruits, but to form his decision, them in fighter, helps to save her lives if the troop is landed in Tarawa in November, 1943 and risks Stryker his life to destroy a Japanese bunker which has killed caught marines on a block wall. The troop fight-checked now becomes more cord kind near, and the respect of Stryker with the men warms itself up because the troop is found, in the end, in the bloodiest island fight of the war, in Iwo Jima.
