The standard history of the redbreast’s bonnet: The bad prince John depresses the people, while the good king Richard is away on the crusades. Redbreast’s thefts of the revenue officers, wins an archery quarrel, thwarts the sheriff, and saves maidservant Marian. In this version, however, Mel Brooks adds his own personal touch, traditional adventure films, Romanesque films, and the whole idea of the men parodying who run around the woods in the sock trousers.
