Having based on the novel of Alessandro Baricco it is the history of a smuggler of worm with silk married, Herve Joncour, in 19th century France which travels in Japan to gather its underground load. While there he sees a nice Japanese wife, the common law wife of a local baron, by whom he becomes haunted. Without speaking the same language, they communicate by letters until war intervenes. Their love without return persists however and the woman Helene d’ Herve begins suspecting.
Basé sur le roman de l’Alessandro Baricco c’est l’histoire d’un contrebandier de ver à soie marié, Herve Joncour, au 19ème siècle la France qui voyage au Japon pour recueillir son chargement clandestin. Pendant que là il aperçoit une belle femme japonaise, la concubine d’un baron local, par qui il devient obsédé. Sans parler la même langue, ils communiquent par les lettres jusqu’à ce que la guerre intervienne. Leur amour sans retour persiste pourtant et la femme Helene d’Herve commence à soupçonner.
